Growing Plants

A collection of thriving green plants in a cozy setting

Growing plants is a great hobby to boost your self-esteem. It teaches you how to nurture something so it can thrive. Plants need sunlight, water, and nutrients — just like me and you. If you can provide these things to your plants, they'll reward you with many benefits in return.

Maintaining your plants is a very grounding exercise. From light training to pruning, these tasks help lower your cortisol levels as you focus on the present moment. I find it promotes relaxation and eases the stresses that build up over the day, as you shut out the outside world and focus on your little green children.

My favourite part of the week is when I check on my greenhouse and see how my plants are doing. It truly brings me joy to watch them grow. Whether you choose easy-to-grow varieties or more delicate ones, it brings a real sense of accomplishment.

At the time of writing this post, I'm growing lots of tomatoes, capsicum peppers, carrots, and a butter-nut squash — with varying success! But just like in life, you can't always be successful. You've got to be in it for the journey, not just the destination.
